A voiceover on Windows is usually three jobs in one: writing the script, turning it into speech, and placing the audio on a video timeline. You can record your own voice with a microphone, or generate the narration with a text to speech tool. This guide uses the generated route because it is repeatable and does not need a quiet room.

## 1. Write for the ear, not the page

Read the script out loud before you generate it. Long sentences that look fine in a document often run out of breath when spoken. Shorten them, spell out numbers the way you want them read, and put a pronunciation note next to names that are easy to get wrong.

- Keep one idea per sentence.
- Use punctuation to control pauses, not just grammar.
- Write numbers and dates the way a narrator would say them.
- Mark section breaks so you can generate in smaller pieces.
- Keep a separate list of names and technical terms for a pronunciation check.

## 2. Choose how you will generate the voice

You have two practical choices on Windows. Record yourself with a USB microphone, or generate the speech with a local text to speech app. Recording gives you your own delivery and needs a quiet space, a microphone, and time for retakes. Generation gives you a consistent voice and fast revisions, but you still need to listen for pronunciation and pacing.

For a generated voiceover, Murmur for Windows is one option. Its Windows beta runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11, bundles Kokoro for basic narration, and can install optional Pro models for voice cloning and Voice Design. It generates on your PC and exports WAV.

## 3. Install Murmur on Windows

Download the Windows installer from the [Murmur for Windows page](https://www.murmurtts.com/windows). Run the setup file. Because the beta installer is not code signed yet, Windows may show a blue SmartScreen box. Choose More info, then Run anyway. You only need to do that once.

Open Murmur and activate your licence, or start the free plan. Kokoro is ready without a separate model download. If you want cloning or Voice Design, open the model list and install the model you need. Those downloads are larger and take longer on a slow connection.

## 4. Generate and review the take

Paste the first section of the script, choose a voice, and generate a short preview. Listen for the things that are hard to fix later: a name said wrong, a number read as a different number, an awkward pause, or a sentence that sounds rushed.

Change the script before you change the model. Most weak takes are a writing problem, not a voice problem. If the read is flat, try a different voice or a stronger model. If one line is wrong, regenerate that section instead of the whole script.

## 5. Export WAV and place it in your editor

The Windows beta exports WAV. That format works in most video editors, including Clipchamp, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and CapCut. Drop the file on a new audio track, align the first word with the picture, and leave a little room at the start and end for trimming.

If the video editor only accepts another format, convert a copy of the WAV rather than the master. Keep the WAV as the archive so you can re-export without another generation pass. For a louder, more even result, apply a gentle limiter or normalize the track in the editor, not in the voice app.

## What the Windows beta does not do

The Windows beta is a single-script composer. It does not have the Mac app's multi-speaker projects, timeline, batch queue, community voice browsing, CLI or MCP automation, Jamf or MDM deployment, automatic updates, or M4A export. Fish Audio S2 Pro is marked Coming soon. If those features matter, use the Mac app or wait for a later Windows build.

## A simple quality checklist

- Listen once with your eyes closed. You should hear the meaning, not the edits.
- Check every name, number, and acronym against the script.
- Listen on laptop speakers and on headphones. Both matter.
- Leave headroom at the start and end of each clip.
- Keep the script, the voice name, and the model name with the project so you can reproduce the take.

Download Murmur for Windows, generate a local take, and export a WAV for your editor. Pro is $49 once.
