# Murmur. *Managed by your team.*

Deploy the app once, distribute your organization’s license key, and let each Mac activate when Murmur opens.

## 1. Before you start

- Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Optional voice cloning and Voice Design require 16 GB+ memory.
- A [team license](https://www.murmurtts.com/checkout) covering the number of Macs you deploy. Each license covers one active Mac, shared by its local users when managed through MDM.
- Murmur 1.0.18 or later. [Download the signed, notarized MDM installer](https://murmur-updates.tarunyadav9761.workers.dev/releases/Murmur-1.0.18-build-19.pkg).
- Jamf Pro or another MDM that can install macOS packages and computer-level configuration profiles.

Murmur supports direct distribution through Jamf and other MDM solutions.

## 2. Install the app

Upload the signed Murmur PKG to Jamf Pro and deploy it with a computer policy. It installs `/Applications/Murmur.app`. Scope the package and profile to your licensed Macs. Launch Murmur as the signed-in user.

Distribute your license key separately with a managed profile. Users can download optional models in Murmur; model downloads, projects, and audio stay in each user’s account.

## 3. Add the managed preferences

Download the template, replace `REPLACE_WITH_ORGANIZATION_LICENSE_KEY` with your purchased key, and assign fresh payload UUIDs before uploading it to your MDM.

Alternatively, in Jamf Pro open **Application & Custom Settings → Upload**, use preference domain `com.murmur.app`, and deploy these as forced computer-level preferences:

A configuration profile is a deployment credential. Restrict its scope and access. Keep filled profiles and license keys out of source control and support tickets.

## 4. Verify a pilot Mac

1. Launch Murmur as a standard user. It activates automatically using the managed key, without asking the user to paste it.
2. Let initial model setup complete, then generate a short voiceover.
3. Open Murmur under a second local account on the same managed Mac. Check Polar’s activation list: both accounts should share one device activation.
4. If you disabled updates, confirm Murmur’s update controls are unavailable. Restart Murmur after changing that policy.
5. Check your purchased limit with a small pilot before scoping the profile across your fleet.

## 5. Updates, replacements, and offline use

When IT manages updates, distribute the next signed PKG through MDM. Existing user projects and audio stay in place.

To retire a Mac, remove it from the profile scope and quit Murmur, then release its activation in Polar’s customer portal. Profile removal clears that user’s managed license cache on the next launch or check. Release the device activation in Polar once all local accounts have finished using it.

Allow HTTPS access to `murmur-licenses.tarunyadav9761.workers.dev` for activation and periodic checks. Initial activation needs internet. The app permits offline use for up to 30 days after its last successful validation. Model downloads and community browsing also require internet. Speech generation runs locally.

Additional purchases issue their own keys. For consolidation or a change to an existing license, contact support. Refunds revoke the entire order. Contact support to adjust the number of licensed Macs.

## Troubleshooting

**Activation limit reached**

Check the licensed Mac count and release retired activations in Polar. A replacement Mac needs an available activation.

**Murmur asks for a license key**

Confirm the profile is scoped to this Mac, uses `com.murmur.app`, and forces `ManagedLicenseKey`. Confirm the app version supports managed deployment, then restart it.

**Activation unavailable**

Check network access, the profile’s key, and the purchase status. Use Retry after correcting the issue. Contact your IT team if it persists.

**A new purchase still shows one activation**

License provisioning may still be processing. Retry shortly, then contact support with the order reference if the limit has not updated. Do not send your full key.
