Syllable counts come from vowel tokens; CMUdict does not supply syllable boundaries here. Variant order follows the dictionary and does not rank correctness. This lexicon does not represent every accent or context.

## Use chaos in context

Chaos describes severe disorder and can also appear as a technical concept in mathematics and science. Everyday narration should make the cause and scale clear. An explainer using the technical sense needs its own definition, since a lively description of confusion does not adequately communicate a scientific idea.

1. The sudden downpour threw the outdoor event into chaos.
2. The lesson introduces chaos through a simple model of changing weather.

### A practice cue

Audition chaos in the same sentence as its cause or definition. Compare the energy of an event account with the measured pace of an explainer, and check that the voice does not turn a technical term into an image of random commotion.

## Read the sound tokens

Each example word below is a cue for the named sound, rather than a respelling of chaos. Unstressed vowels may sound reduced. These cues follow the [CMU phoneme-set key (Appendix A)](https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aria/Papers/MastersThesis.pdf#page=115).
