## Use croissant in context

Cafe menus and bakery ads use croissant in nearly every breakfast scene. CMUdict lists a form that opens with "kwah", closer to the French, and an anglicized one that opens with "kruh". Both put the weight on the second syllable and sound the final T, unlike a fully French delivery.

1. He tore the croissant in half and dipped it in his coffee.
2. The almond croissant sold out before nine.

### A practice cue

Choose the opening that fits the tone of the piece, more French for a travel story or plainer for a quick ad. Keep the T audible either way so the word does not trail off.

Each example word below is a cue for the named sound, rather than a respelling of croissant. Unstressed vowels may sound reduced. These cues follow the [CMU phoneme-set key (Appendix A)](https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aria/Papers/MastersThesis.pdf#page=115).
