## Use draught in context

Draught is the British spelling of draft, and it shows up on pub menus, in weather pieces about a cold draught and in UK novels. American readers meeting the spelling often try "drawt". Either spelling gives the same single syllable.

1. They only serve one stout on draught at the corner pub.
2. A cold draught came under the door all night.

### A practice cue

Read the word as if it were printed draft. Then try laughter and draught together, since the "augh" works the same way in both.

## Read the sound tokens

Each example word below is a cue for the named sound, rather than a respelling of draught. Unstressed vowels may sound reduced. These cues follow the [CMU phoneme-set key (Appendix A)](https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aria/Papers/MastersThesis.pdf#page=115).
