## Use gauge in context

Gauge can name a measuring instrument or describe estimating a quantity, reaction, or condition. Tutorials should distinguish the reading on an instrument from a judgment made by a person. Concrete units or observations help listeners understand what is being measured and how the information guides the next action.

1. Check the pressure gauge before starting the demonstration.
2. The producer used a short preview to gauge audience interest.

### A practice cue

Test gauge as both a noun and a verb if your script uses both roles. Audition the nearby numbers and units, then check the whole instruction to ensure that the listener can distinguish a device reading from an informal assessment.
