Syllable counts come from vowel tokens; CMUdict does not supply syllable boundaries here. Variant order follows the dictionary and does not rank correctness. This lexicon does not represent every accent or context.

## Use myriad in context

Essays, product copy and narration use myriad to describe a great number of things. The spelling suggests "my" at the start, but the CMU entry uses the vowel of "mirror" and stresses the first syllable. The final syllable is reduced and light.

1. The city offers a myriad of small music venues.
2. She weighed myriad options before choosing the route.

### A practice cue

Begin with "MIR" as in "mirror" and let the rest move quickly. Check that the short i survives when the word follows "a" in a longer sentence.

## Read the sound tokens

Each example word below is a cue for the named sound, rather than a respelling of myriad. Unstressed vowels may sound reduced. These cues follow the [CMU phoneme-set key (Appendix A)](https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aria/Papers/MastersThesis.pdf#page=115).
