Syllable counts come from vowel tokens; CMUdict does not supply syllable boundaries here. Variant order follows the dictionary and does not rank correctness. This lexicon does not represent every accent or context.

## Use pecan in context

Few food words split listeners as evenly as pecan, and the dictionary reflects that with three listed forms. One puts the stress on the second syllable with an "ah" vowel, one stresses the first syllable, and a third keeps the stress late but uses the vowel of "can". None is wrong here; mixing them inside one script is what sounds careless.

1. She folded chopped pecan halves into the cookie dough.
2. A slice of pecan pie closed out the holiday meal.

### A practice cue

Mark the variant that matches your audience in the script margin. Read every instance with that same stress so a long recipe or story does not switch halfway.

## Read the sound tokens

Each example word below is a cue for the named sound, rather than a respelling of pecan. Unstressed vowels may sound reduced. These cues follow the [CMU phoneme-set key (Appendix A)](https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aria/Papers/MastersThesis.pdf#page=115).
