## Use stoic in context

Stoic often describes someone who endures difficulty without openly showing distress. It can also connect to the philosophical tradition of Stoicism, which requires more context than a personality description alone. Profiles and narrative scenes should show what the person does, allowing the audience to interpret the restrained response.

1. He remained stoic while the others debated the cancellation.
2. The portrait captures her stoic expression during the long wait.

### A practice cue

Compare stoic in the full character description with the action that follows it. Listen for a restrained but engaged reading, and avoid flattening the whole sentence merely because the adjective describes a person who is not displaying strong emotion.
