Free audio tool

Audio Normalizer

Normalize an audio file to a −1 dBFS sample peak in your browser. Preview and download WAV without uploading your recording.

Prepare a voiceover for editing

Finish your edits first, keep the original export, then normalize a copy and compare it at a comfortable playback volume. A shared peak target does not guarantee that several clips will sound equally loud.

Read the WAV, M4A, and MP3 export guide before choosing your delivery format.

Common questions

Does Murmur upload my audio?

No. Your audio stays on your device.

Do I need an account?

No. Choose a file and get started.

How do I normalize audio online?

Choose one audio file, select Normalize audio, listen to the preview, and download the WAV. Processing happens locally in your browser. Keep your original file so you can compare the result.

What volume does this audio normalizer target?

It applies the same gain across the file to bring the highest sample peak to −1 dBFS. It preserves the relative difference between quiet and loud passages. Silent files remain silent; normalization also raises any background noise when it boosts a quiet recording.

Is this a LUFS loudness normalizer?

No. This tool measures sample peaks, not integrated loudness or true peaks. Two files with the same peak can sound different in loudness. If your delivery specification requires a LUFS or true-peak target, use a loudness meter and a processor that supports those measurements.

Can I normalize an MP3 on a Mac?

Yes, if your browser can decode it. You can also try WAV or M4A. The normalized result downloads as WAV, even when the input is MP3. This tool does not batch-process files or export MP3.

Will normalization fix distorted audio?

No. Lowering a clipped recording’s level does not restore lost detail. It also does not remove noise or compress loud passages. Listen before exporting and address those problems separately.
