Use vignette in context

Vignette can describe a brief scene or sketch, and it is also used in photography for an image effect near the edges. Writing commentary and visual tutorials need to establish which sense applies. Narration should connect the term to the scene, passage, or photograph before discussing its effect on the audience.

  1. The opening vignette follows a baker preparing the shop before dawn.
  2. A gentle vignette draws attention toward the center of the photograph.
