Use visceral in context

Visceral describes a response felt strongly and immediately, often with a bodily or instinctive quality. Film reviews, personal accounts, and descriptions of art may use it to characterize an experience. Narration should point to the sound, image, or event that produces the response rather than relying on the adjective to supply intensity.

  1. The sudden change in sound gives the scene a visceral impact.
  2. Her account conveys the visceral fear she felt in the tunnel.
