CAPTIONS, READY FOR THE WEB / FREE TOOL

SRT to VTT converter

Bring your subtitles to the web. Convert an SRT file into downloadable WebVTT captions.

2 cues ready.

Local processing · UTF-8 SRT only · up to 200 KB · your original file is never overwritten.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste SRT captions or open a UTF-8 .srt file.
  2. Review the converted WebVTT text and any validation errors.
  3. Download the .vtt file and add it to your video player.

SRT uses comma-separated milliseconds. WebVTT starts with a WEBVTT header and uses a period before milliseconds. This converter preserves timing and line breaks, and regenerates numeric cue IDs. Basic bold, italic, and underline tags are kept; SRT-only formatting is removed.

SRT to VTT converter: questions answered.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

Both store caption text with start and end times. WebVTT adds a WEBVTT header, uses periods for milliseconds, and supports browser text tracks. Renaming .srt to .vtt alone is not enough.

Does converting change subtitle timing?

No. This converter keeps every valid start and end time. It changes the file syntax and regenerates cue numbers.

Can it convert styled subtitles?

Basic bold, italic, and underline are retained. Other tags and SRT positioning codes are removed. Review the result in your player if the original relies on styling.

Are my subtitle files uploaded?

No. File reading, conversion, and download run in your browser. Use UTF-8 SRT files up to 200 KB and 200,000 characters. Malformed cues produce an error instead of a partial download.
